Obviously everyone's needs are different, but Entourage happens to address mine best. Its weaknesses are probably many, but not visible at the level of the way I want to interface with it.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is a version of the Microsoft Office productivity suite for Mac OS X. It supersedes Office 2004 for Mac (which did not have Intel native code) and is the Mac OS X equivalent of Office 2007. Office 2008 was developed by Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit and released on January 15, 2008. What kind of account - Exchange, POP/IMAP? In my case, I was using Entourage 2008 web services edition on an exchange account. I upgraded from Mac OS 10.8.5 to 10.11 and the program does seem to at least open, but it immediately hangs up and goes into the 'not responding' mode and then you simply have to force quit. Thus there is no way to keep using it without some type of 'fix'. Although I would very much like to keep using Entourage as it does all that I need and I have been using it since it came out, it would seem at this point maybe us former users are now being forced into a different client, such as Outlook or Mail.

The 'perpetual'/boxed Office 2016 releases represent a 'snapshot in time' of features. In other words, these versions won't be updated multiple times per year, unlike the Office releases that users obtain via Office 365 Personal, Home or Business subscriptions. I'm unable to find a standalone downloadable Outlook for Windows. According to I should be able to use Outlook for Windows with an E1 mailbox. Quote: 'Use business-class email through a rich and familiar Outlook experience you can access from your desktop or from a web browser.' I am aware that does not list Outlook in the Office applications section, which I find odd given the assertion about being able to use Outlook 'from your desktop', since I'm unable to find out how to download the client separately. Has anyone else been able to use Outlook for Windows with an E1 license? If so, how did you do it? Did you purchase Outlook separately or is there a legal workaround of sorts, e.g.

Microsoft announced Thursday that the next edition of will be released in late 2010. The new edition of the venerable office suite will include Outlook for Mac, a new application that will replace Entourage. “We’ll bring forward, including public folders, managed folders, and category syncing, but with Outlook we’re going even further and building a whole new application,” said Microsoft Mac Business Unit general manager Eric Wilfrid. Wilfrid said that Microsoft will create Outlook for Mac using Apple’s modern Cocoa development frameworks, rather than the older Carbon system used by previous Office applications because of their legacy of having been originally developed for the Classic Mac OS. “We’re building on the most modern OS X frameworks to make Outlook beautiful, to make it high performance, and to make it well integrated with the OS,” Wilfrid said.
